Mirza Hasanuzzaman (Ph.D.) is a Professor of Agronomy at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Hons.) from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, where he achieved First Class, received a Gold Medal for being first in his class, and earned a Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Award. He also completed a Master of Science in Agronomy from the same university, where he was once again at top of his class with a CGPA 4.0. In 2012, he received his Ph.D. with a dissertation on ‘Plant Stress Physiology and Antioxidant Metabolism’ from the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, Ehime University, Japan with a Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship. Later, he completed his postdoctoral research in the Center of Molecular Biosciences (COMB), University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan with a ‘Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)’ postdoctoral fellowship. Subsequently, he became an Adjunct Senior Researcher at the University of Tasmania with an Australian Government’s Endeavour Research Fellowship. In 2006, Mirza Hasanuzzaman joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Agronomy, SAU. Since then he has received three early promotions, and has reached the top level, becoming a Full Professor in June 2017; all within the same university. Prof. Hasanuzzaman has over 300 Scopus-indexed publications and among them more than 250 in the Web of Science (Web of Science ResearcherID: A-1665-2010). He has edited over 20 books and written over 30 book chapters on important aspects of plant physiology, plant stress responses, and environmental problems in relation to plant species. His publications are cited over 27000 times as per Scopus with an h-index of 84 (as of December 2024). He is an Editor and a reviewer for more than 80 peer-reviewed international journals and the recipient of ‘Publons Peer Review Award 2017, 2018, and 2019’. He is acting Associate Editor of Plant Signaling & Behavior (Taylor and Francis), Frontiers in Plant Science (Switzerland), Phyton (Tech Science Press, USA) and Stresses (MDPI, Switzerland); Academic Editor of PeerJ (USA), Plants (MDPI), Open Agriculture (De Gruyter, Poland), Vegetos (Springer); and Member of the Editorial Board of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry (Elsevier), Scientific Reports (Nature), Annals of Agricultural Sciences (Elsevier), Communicative and Integrative Biology (Taylor & Francis) and so on. He is an active member of 40 professional societies and is the acting Treasurer of the Bangladesh JSPS Alumni Association and Joint Secretary of the Japanese Universities Alumni Association in Bangladesh (JUAAB). He received the World Academy of Science (TWAS) Young Scientist Award 2014; University Grants Commission (UGC) Gold Medal 2018; Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) Gold Medal Award-2022 (Senior Group); Global Network of Bangladeshi Biotechnologists (GNOBB) Award 2021; Society for Plant Research Young Scientist Award (Agriculture)-2023; Eminent Scientist Award-2022 from the Society for Science of Climate Change and Sustainable Environment; Distinguished Scientists Award (2020) and Global Scientist Award-2023 from AETDS, India. He is a fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS), the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the Royal Society of Biology, the International Society of Environmental Botanists, and a Foreign fellow of The Society for Science of Climate Change and Sustainable Environment. He was the only Bangladeshi-affiliated author named a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate in 2021 and 2022.
